About Torien Yakitori

Let me introduce you to Torien Yakitori Restaurant, a spot that quietly nails the essence of a proper yakitori restaurant while still feeling relaxed and welcoming. Known locally as Torien Yakitori, this place sits at No. 48號, Zhongming S Rd, in Taichung’s West District, an area that already attracts food lovers who enjoy exploring beyond the obvious. From the moment you hear the name Torien Yakitori, expectations lean toward charcoal-grilled skewers, smoky aromas, and that comforting balance between craftsmanship and casual dining. The vibe stays true to classic yakitori culture, focusing on grilled chicken skewers prepared with attention rather than overcomplication, which makes it an easy choice whether you’re planning a laid-back dinner or a spontaneous food stop. What really helps Torien Yakitori stand out is how flexible it feels; dine-in is perfect if you want the full experience, takeaway works well for busy evenings, and delivery makes it accessible even when you’d rather stay home. Meanwhile, the drink selection keeps things interesting, with alcohol options that include beer, spirits, and wine, so pairing grilled skewers with your preferred drink never feels forced or limited. Because of that, the restaurant naturally attracts both yakitori enthusiasts and people who simply want good food without formality. The setting doesn’t try to be flashy, and that’s part of the charm, as it lets the food and atmosphere speak for themselves. When introducing Torien Yakitori to friends, it’s easy to describe it as one of those dependable places where flavors stay consistent, the mood stays casual, and the overall experience feels thoughtfully put together, especially for anyone exploring yakitori in Taichung and looking for something approachable yet satisfying.

I would suggest paying closer attention to details, as this would really help improve the overall dining experience. During our visit, one staff member was responsible for serving the five of us, and when we placed our order, the server thoughtfully asked about any dietary restrictions and preferences. However, there were a few issues. One of my companions does not eat medium-rare chicken, so we requested that the chicken skewer be cooked well-done. Despite this, it was still served at about medium-rare. Additionally, the dessert of the day was a Matcha Basque cheesecake. I clearly mentioned that I do not eat matcha and asked if there was an alternative. The staff member told me that it could be replaced with ice cream, and I agreed to the substitution. However, when the dessert was served, the matcha Basque cheesecake was still brought out instead. As for the food itself, the ramen, chicken ankles, and chicken cartilage were the most satisfying dishes. Unfortunately, the other items were somewhat disappointing, as they lacked the charcoal-grilled aroma that we were expecting.

Best yakitori in Taichung, chef Tommy is skillful and knowledgeable about how to select, prepare, store, salt and bbq various cuts of chicken, as well as fish, vegetable and duck. The wine fridge holds a great selection of rare sake, along with a simple list but nicely picked wines.

This place certainly needs to be on anyone's list, and probably not just for a one-time visit, but for several visits over long periods. They specialize in high quality chicken yakitori, and every dish is absolutely fantastic. We came for dinner and were served a preset meal with anything from juicy hearts to medium-rare and scrumptious tenderloin to yummy crispy stuffed wings to absolutely gorgeous neck meat. Everything was grilled perfectly with a delightful smoky flavor and light seasoning. Order a bottle of sake or some white wine, or bring your own, and enjoy a truly fantastic meal prepared by very professional and efficient and friendly staff.

Great yakitori place. Service is good and all the pieces are seasons great. Only thing is that the counter infront of the grill gets really hot and uncomfortable especially in the summer heat.

IG: @jojo_gourmand The sight and scent of meat sizzling over an open flame satisfy something deep and elemental within us. Yakitori is one of the best ways to savor a whole chicken, and Chef Tommy of Torien 鳥苑地雞燒 understands the relationship between flame and flesh, knowing just how to cook each cut to draw out its best flavor. Torien Yakitori is, without a doubt, the best Yakitori restaurant in Taichung. Even as someone who isn't a big fan of chicken, I was amazed by how delicious they made it taste. The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, adding to the overall fantastic experience. All dishes are cooked to perfection right in front of you in an open kitchen, which adds a delightful touch to the dining experience. While they do accept walk-ins, I highly recommend making a reservation to ensure you get a spot.
